Pliant Energy Systems seeks a Robotics Engineer with skills and experience applicable to underwater localization, navigation, mapping and autonomy.
You will work on the development of our Office of Naval Research-funded underwater/amphibious robotic technology and be involved in other upcoming robotic/mechatronic projects.
Your first project will involve endowing Pliant’s early-stage amphibious robot with autonomous surveying capabilities. This work requires familiarity with robotic localization and mapping using inertial dead-reckoning techniques and/or sparse and noisy position data, and experience deploying navigation, perception, and localization algorithms on real-world hardware.
This position is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge soft machines and to be part of the fast-growing hardware-focused tech community at NewLab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, physics, or similar.
Strong programming skills (Python, C, C++)
Direct experience in robotic navigation and localization. Special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience localizing underwater robots using low-cost techniques combining inertial dead-reckoning with sparse sonar data.
Big plus if you have generalist experience with robotics, mechatronic system design, selection and integration of hardware for prototype robotic systems, and/or have strong general electronic design and debugging skills, since we are still a small team.
Strong CAD/CAM skills a plus, especially SolidWorks.
Must be US citizen or Green Card holder (due to US Govt. contract restrictions).
